A pastor of the Lutheran church of
Australia, called by God for a time to serve at:
Horsham, Victoria (congregations at Horsham and Laharem)
1995(-96);
the Swan Reach Lutheran Parish, South
Australia (congregations at Murbko, Blanchetown, Swan Reach and Nildottie)
19(96) - 2002; and
the Pittsworth Lutheran Parish,
Queensland (congregations at Millmerran, Yandilla, Pittsworth and Nobby) 2002 -
2004.
With increasingly prevalent symptoms of burnout, I realised I needed a break from the constant pressures and burdens of full time ministry. I wondered whether I was suited to continue in parish ministry, and went on leave of absence to recuperate and to continue to explore where my place in God's kingdom and world might be. It has been a difficult journey, but one I don't regret, in that I have been able to spend a lot more time with my family than I would have otherwise. I have also expanded my knowledge and experience in various ways. By God's grace I hope I have started to become a humbler and wiser person. Recently I have been granted approval to return to the active ministry of the LCA. My family and I enjoy a settled life here in Toowoomba. My wife works at a wonderful little cafe/coffee shop in Hume street called 'Nature Bites.'
In 2005 I worked in the Child Care sector as a 'Physi
Kids' instructor.
In 2006 I studied at USQ and by God's
grace gained a graduate diploma in learning and teaching.
In 2007 taught Christian Studies at Concordia Lutheran
College, Toowoomba, Queensland Australia on a 12 month contract.
In 2008 God provided work for me demonstrating Saeco fully
automatic coffee machines in several stores here in Toowoomba. I also worked at
Rangeville Outside School Hours care. In July the Lord kindly gave me more work
and now I am part of the sales team at Colin Mackay's Good Guys, Toowoomba.
In October a new service was started on Saturday nights as a gathering place for many folk from the Living Grace Lutheran community. The called pastor of Living Grace has made the Sunday morning service his focus, and has given me permission to preach and serve in ministry among the Saturday night community. I have been asked to serve in preaching and with the Lord's Supper, every second week (though sometimes it works out to be weekly). In light of my close to full time secular work commitment, this is currently the extent of my involvement, apart from a baptism we had at the Preston Village chapel. A worship preparation group is meeting weekly, with a positive, cooperative, teamwork approach. There may be possibilities for this Saturday evening group to develop a partnership with Concordia Lutheran College to provide a worship home for the boarders along with others in the wider school community who do not yet have a spiritual home. In this way Living Grace might be able to take up an original vision of working with the College. Living Grace has been using the College chapel since the congregation was formed in 2000.
Early in 2008 I started a diploma in professional counselling. I enjoy weekly meetings with my father (Rev Cecil Logan) to discuss what I am learning. He is a retired Lutheran pastor who taught counselling among many other things at Martin Luther Seminary in Lae, PNG, and has had extensive experience over many years of ministry both in PNG and here in Australia. He has also spent time serving in the US and New Zealand.
My life is in God's hands. Jesus paid the price to redeem me from sin death and the power of the devil. I belong to him. Maybe He will still give me grace to serve him further.
